Wash your tattoo with warm water and mild liquid antibacterial soap. Generic brands actually work better. Gently wash away any ointment, blood, or plasma and completely clean the area. Your hand is the best way to get it clean. Pat the area firmly with a clean towel or paper towel. Follow with a very light application of an ointment of your choice, preferably a triple antibiotic ointment, but Bacitracin works well also. You can use regular lotion after 3 - 5 days.

We are here to let you know that yes, you can shower with a new tattoo. However, submerging it in a bath or hot tub can cause serious damage. Showering is perfectly fine as long as you do not saturate your tattoo. Swimming in any type of water should be avoided for at least 2 weeks. When your tattoo starts to scab up and peel, do not pick it. Make sure to keep it moisturized.
